Frequently Asked Questions
Do you ship cakes?
No, sending a letter in one piece is tough enough, a decorated cake is
even more challenging.
What cake flavors and fillings do you offer?
For flavors, please refer to the Flavors and Sizing section of the web site under "Creating Your Cake". There you will find an above average list of flavors and fillings.
What is the difference between a cake flavor and filling?
A cake flavor is just that, the flavor of the cake, and the filling is spread in between the layers of cake. You may choose to use butter cream icing in between the layers, or choose a filling. For the most part, the basic cake flavors and fillings work well together and are fairly interchangeable. The more exotic cake flavors require more care with the fillings they are placed with.
Where is your pricing list?
Pricing is available upon request. As we do custom cakes, pricing varies depending on the project, so please contact us and we'll be happy to send you a pricing guide. If our prices fit within your budget, an estimate tailored to your specific request will follow.
Do you make gumpaste/handmade flowers?
Yes, we make exquisite gumpaste flowers. We will create them 6 weeks prior to your event so changes to your design are not permitted past that point. Pricing on these varies and is available on request.
Do you have a minimum price for wedding cakes?
Yes, $100 is our minimum wedding cake price. Specialty bakers tend to carry smaller volume allowing us to put more attention and detail into each cake. If you have a need for a lower price point, your local bakery is a great resource for you.
How many servings should we provide for our guests?
Typically, you need as many servings of cake as you do guests. If you plan on offering a groom's cake as well, count on making the grooms up to one 1/3rd the size of the bride's cake. Also know, if you have a sit down dinner, you may serve less cake, if you have only hors 'douvres and cocktails, count on serving more. The good news is that much of the tradition surrounding these events has fallen by the way side. Anything goes these days and lots of brides are bucking tradition!
Do you provide silver cake stands/pedestals?
We currently have 2 silver cake pedestals available for rental, if you have someone you trust (i.e. a wedding coordinator or a close family member), your deposit fee will be returned upon receipt of said rental item. Availability will depend on events we already have booked. If you choose another source, your caterer or reception facility, or equipment rental facility usually has these items available for a fee.
How do I schedule a cake tasting?
As a convenience to you, we will deliver up to four small samples (2”X2”) of cake that you may take home with you to enjoy and share with a groom, mom or anyone you are collaborating with. Or, you may choose to meet with us if you wish to discuss the cake design and any flavors you've requested.
Can I request a custom cake flavor?
Yes, if you have a family recipe or request a custom flavor, we will be more than happy to make it for you. Cake flavors are subjective and if you decide you need a milder or stronger flavor, please let us know and we'll make adjustments for you.
Do you serve the cake at the event?
No, but please refer to your caterer or event/reception facility. Many of these facilities offer this service for a fee. If you need to, you can always find a trusted family member or friend to help serve your cake.
How big are your servings?
We have recently increased our cake/serving sizes as standard sizes were insufficient. Serving size is subjective and varies depending on who is cutting the cake. The "Creating Your Cake" section of our site will tell you how many guests can be served from each tier. Also know... odd shapes and sculpted cakes are rough estimates on servings, so in this case we tend to err on the side of caution providing a larger cake to account for those odd ends.
Do you deliver and set up the cakes?
Yes, if we are available by the time you book your event (with a deposit), we will deliver your cake and set up at your desired location. Please see deposits and delivery fees below.
What is your delivery charge?
We offer a basic $45 delivery charge for most Central Austin locations. Areas falling outside of those parameters will cost more due to the length of the trip and the time/gas involved. Please contact us for details.
Do you place fresh flowers on the cake?
Yes, we require that your florist provide us with any formal arrangements to be placed on the cake. Please call them to have this coordinated. If you request gumpaste flowers, we are happy to create and arrange those for you per your design.
Do you freeze your cakes?
We make all of our cakes to order. Which means we bake them just for your event date, so they aren’t frozen. All this makes for a cake that tastes just as fabulous as it looks. If you have special requests for us to refrain from using ingredients like nuts, dairy or flour (gluten intolerance)… we will be happy to do that for you. As with most bakers you will find, we freeze our cakes for tastings due to time constraints.
Is there a limit to how many flavors I can have?
The more flavors you offer, the more cake you will go through as guests will tend to sample one of each. Most bakers recommend you serve no more than two flavors so as not to overwhelm your guests.
What is the breakdown for deposits and fees?
We require deposit of $100 to hold your event date. There is a returnable security deposit of $200 if your cake requires a custom wooden cake board and or stainless steel support structures. The stainless supports are expensive, but they are the best in the industry and will reduce the chance of the cake buckling or sagging. Upon return, your security deposit is returned to you or shredded, whichever you prefer.
