Amanda’s background is somewhat different from most other cake artists.  As a child, her mother always had home made meals and fresh confections, especially for holidays. Having been raised with all those lovely meals and sweets, it was natural for her to have a love of cooking. At an early age she demonstrated strong artistic skills and had a passion for creating artistic things that surpassed any of her other interests.

In the mid 90’s she graduated and was awarded with Runner Up to Best Student Portfolio with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art and a consentration in Graphic Design. She started out as a graphic designer doing product and graphic design. While she had great respect for the talented people she worked with and enjoyed her work, she had the feeling she was still meant to be doing something else down the road. She yearned to once again create things with her bare hands instead and started looking for something that wasn’t so dependant on a computer.

After taking a couple of years off to start a family, she had a creative catharsis and soon began playing with fondant and other related materials. Perfecting recipes was also important because a yummy cake is after all the very foundation of these excellent creations. They have to taste as good as they look!

Amanda took a couple of classes at the All In One Bake Shop and with some practice, she began to see some real results. She was very excited to find that she could apply all the skills she’d acquired over the years from her art degree, as well as her career path in design… and merge it with her love of culinary arts. All that painting, sculpting, drawing and design experience really paid off.

When she began to experiment with cakes and saw she could do something that brought a smile to people’s faces, she thought… “THAT’S IT! That’s what I WANT TO DO!” After doing several cakes for family, friends and other acquaintances, her business just took off from there. And they told two friends… and they told two friends…
